So I am a big fan of Walt Simonson, at least i'm a fan of what i've read from him. He wrote and drew my favorite Thor stories, the Thor omnibus released last year from Marvel is one of my favorites on my shelf. This dude can write so hearing that he's writing and drawing an original graphic novel that stars Batman is a pleasant surprise. I like the concept of it a lot and the fact the cover reflects the interior. 6 separate but related stories, is a conceit I usually enjoy when done right. Disjointed storytelling is usually fun, since it's up to you the reader to make the connections and parallels.
I do have some questions I wish were answered, like who will be coloring the book. The cover is colored really well but whoever colored it doesn't show any idiosyncratic qualities some colorists have that I could easily spot. It might be Steve Oliff, but I really doubt that. Second I am hoping that John Workman is lettering it. He lettered Thor and is a fantastic letterer, he shows how the lettering is supposed to integrate itself into the art. Few letterers are as good as that as he is. Them working together again would be a treat.
In any case I will be buying this on September 18th. I am a lot more interested in this Simonson project, and not his Bendis related one.
